Despite being the most western of the Greek colonies in Sicily, Selinunte managed over 200 years to become an important and populous city.
The archaeological park, a large well-270 hectares, was established in 1993 and houses the impressive ruins of the ancient architectures, distributed on the ground and partially covered by a spontaneous and wild. The park is divided into four areas: acropolis, East hill, the ancient city and the sanctuary Maophoros.
A few kilometers from Selinunte, toward Castelvetrano, are the quarries of Cusa: real treat for fans of Greek architecture. They are a real building site for the construction of temples, or the place where they were made “pieces” to be assembled to establish them.
Marsala is 53 km from Selinunte, the Cusa Caves and 35 km.
